Sugarfree Raw Vegan Brownies…aka…Little Squares of Heaven

So I have had two days during which I have not really been feeling as energized as I wish I would. I really get annoyed with myself when my energy levels aren’t high, mostly because then I don’t feel like working out, and lounging around on my sofa all day is something I don’t do without a guilty conscience. I know it may sound ridiculous, but I just don’t do “relaxation” well.

To distract myself, I thought I’d come up with a new recipe…and distraction recipes are best when chocolate plays a role! And I dare say these refined-sugar-free, raw, vegan brownies are heavenly beyond measure (hence the additional name “little squares of heaven”). I still can’t believe how amazing they are, and how quickly they can be thrown together! The only part that takes a bit of time is the cooling/freezing part…during which you can prepare your icing! Yes, there’s icing involved…it’s getting better and better.

All good things start in a food processor:

And, since this brownie’s a raw one, obviously you won’t need to wait for it to be baked: Just spread out your nutty-date-chocolate “dough” into a sealable container, and press down with a spoon:

Store in the fridge while making your icing (If you want to skip the icing, you can, but I highly recommend using it…I mean…just take a look!)

Would you really want to miss out on that beautiful gooeyness?

Make sure you lick the spoon once you have spread the icing on the brownies. 🙂

Let’s just celebrate this icing…beautifully dark and rich in chocolatey taste, thick and creamy…awmahgerd

Spread it out on the refrigerated brownie, smoothing it out and licking your spoon every chance you get:

Your brownie squares will end up being about 1 inch in thickness, at least if you’re using a similar sized container…

After freezing them for at least half an hour, or keeping them in the fridge for longer, cut into same-sized squares:

Don’t make them too big, these are so rich and filling that you don’t want to overdo it!

Oh. My. God. These are seriously heavenly! Rich, heavy, but awesome.

As you can see, these are about 1 1/2″ squares…and trust me, no more is needed! Chocolate cravings come this way!

If you have kept the brownies in the freezer for more than 2 hours, allow to thaw slightly before eating, as they will be as cold as icecream sandwiches.

Sugarfree Raw Vegan Brownies

  • Servings: 8
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

These are adapted from deliciouslyella’s Raw Brownie Recipe.

(makes a small batch, about half of a 9″ form)

  • 1/3 cup cashews
  • 1/3 cup macadamias
  • 1/3 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup medjool dates
  • 2 Tbs. maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground vanilla

for the icing:

  • 3 Tbs. all-natural peanutbutter
  • 3 Tbs. maple syrup
  • 2 heaped tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

1. In a food processor, pulsate the nuts a few times, until they are in small chunks. Then add the dates, cocoa powder, cinnamon and vanilla, and blend together until a huge sticky doughy blob has formed.

2. Press the dough into a form, preferably one with a lid.

3. Place in the fridge, then mix together all the ingredients for the icing in a bowl, until a creamy, thick paste forms.

4. Take the brownies out of the fridge, and spread out the icing on top. Once done, place in the freezer for at least half an hour.

Update: These make a perfect dessert if you serve them with some vanilla coconut whipped cream and homemade berry sauce. For the coconut whipped cream, follow this recipe, and make sure to add ground vanilla! For the berry sauce, blend 2 Tbs. of berries of your choice along with 2-3 Tbs. of water and 2 tsp. of maple syrup into a creamy berry sauce:

Drizzle this sauce on the whipped coconut cream and brownie, and enjoy this unbelievably decadent dessert…there are no words to describe the taste orgasms you’ll experience, and I’m not overexaggerating.

This is such a simple, raw, vegan dessert that I can’t believe I’ve never made it before. It’s THE perfect chocolate dessert.

The fruity berry sauce will make the dark chocolate, rich brownies easier to eat, and coconut cream is perfectly creamy and makes this cake a dessert.

No more needs to be said. Go and make this right now. Seriously!
