I woke up today realizing I still had a few days off before school starts and that I’ve been doing it all wrong. I have been trying to get into a sort of habit all week, “preparing” myself for going back to school. But it just doesn’t work without the structure a typical work day provides. Which is always tough for me, because for me habits and structures is probably the most important thing in life.
I figure, however, that I should really be enjoying my final days of summer break without that feeling of having to do something in the back of my mind, without the giddy stressfulness of starting at a new school, without the utter exhaustion that is bound to come. I just don’t do well with relaxation. It’s super weird, I know, and I really don’t know what’s wrong with me concerning that, but I feel like I function so much better when I have a lot to do.

My parents’ garden is dehydrating. Big time. Even though I am trying my best to keep it alive, the tomatoes’ skin is literally burning off and the sunflowers are wilting. I can’t stop it! Which just goes to show: This weather is NOT good. I seriously can’t deal with the heat. It makes me angry and I don’t know how people actually say they enjoy it. I just really don’t like the constant sweating and dehydration going on. In both plants and myself.
Which is why I needed some cooking or baking to get my mood back on track. Why can’t there be “cooking weather” instead of “heat” or “summer weather”?

I’m coming at you from a place of headaches. I have felt it coming on all day, and I guess now it’s finally hitting me. I’m not gonna whine too much about it, though, as I feel like it’s something that has been happening quite frequently, so I guess it’s not worth whining about every time. I’m headed for a nice bubblebath after this blogpost, so that’ll probably help a lot.
Before I relax, though, I thought I’d show you some of the new vegan goodies I’ve been enjoying lately. I love discovering new superfoods, chocolates that are accidentally or intentionally vegan and colorful food. If that has caught your attention, I suggest you continue reading NOW.

The title of today’s post is too long. I know this, but I honestly didn’t know how to shorten it anymore. Originally, I thought about naming this cake:
Chocolate Hazelnut Banana Bread Raspberry Coconut Cake.
But that would’ve definitely been too long. The title now is my compromise. If you have a better, idea, let me know in the comments, and I may change it.

I am so worried these days, and I just can’t seem to turn it off. It’s great starting my life as a “working citizen” soon, but with great privilege comes great responsibility, and I just can’t deal with all that responsibility that well (yet). I think it’s all this talk about insurances, future house building plans, children, etc. that is kind of getting to my nerves. Sometimes I wish I could just take a look at my life in 5 years, then come back to the present and know everything is going to end up being perfectly fine. Anybody invent a time machine yet?

Boy, am I having a slow start today. I haven’t really been sleeping very well – for whatever reason, I have woken up around 4 or 5 am the past two days, and not been able to fall asleep again properly. My boyfriend gets up at 6, which obviously wakes me even if he makes sure not to disturb me, and at 8 am the painters working on the walls on our house start (and I wouldn’t need to sleep past 8 if I were able to get some proper sleep before). Needless to say, it hasn’t been the best morning.

Every year, I wait tables at a local vintner’s, and have been doing so for the past 5 years. Seeing that on paper (or, more like, on the screen) makes me feel kind of…old. It is slowly but surely starting to dawn on me that I actually am done with university, and am about to embark on the rest of my life. Gosh, I’m poetic today.
Anyways, waiting tables at this vintner’s has become a part of my life, at least those 3 weeks of the year he sells his wine in his yard. This is a typical thing in Germany, at least in our region: my boss has a job other than being a vintner, but three weeks of the year he runs a little yard restaurant, where he mostly serves his wine, but also sells some food along with it. Hence my working there as a waitress.
