The first time I brought home sweet potatoes, and ecstatically showed them to my boyfriend, his comment was: “Oh, my grandpa used to feed those to the pigs!” Uhm, well, I guess that’s what they do here in Germany. Sweet potatoes are not generally eaten by humans, they’re animal food. Those are some lucky animals, eh?!
This month’s salad may come as a bit of surprise. It would be logical to have a salad featuring seasonal berries, a salad that is light and according to the temperature. I wanted to do things a little differently for my “A Year of Salads” Category this month, though, and opted for a filling, satisfying salad that can easily be swapped out for a whole meal. No berries, no fruits, just simple, down-to-earth ingredients, that will fool you into thinking you’re not even eating a salad bowl, but a really huge lovely bowl of roasted goodness.
Good evening, everyone, and please pay attention. I have made the ULTIMATE sweet potato dish. My mom showed me a recipe last week, figuring that I would be the most likely of our family to try it out (at least that’s what I suspect the reason for her showing it to me was)…and I gotta say, it surprised me!
Coming home from teaching class last night, I was exceptionally hungry. Why? Well, I only had a very quick slice of bread before I left, and, the second class I taught was all about ordering food, talking about favorite foods, exotic food, seasoning etc. I am so glad that I have been writing on this blog, otherwise my vocab really wouldn’t have been up to answering all the questions my students had!
